I am dependent upon Outlook, and just got the Droid (from a Blackberry). I've tried a few options to integrate Outlook components, nothing seems seamless. Is the Google Apps still the best way to go?
Thanks

Very informative and helpful. So now how about Outlook 2010? I upgraded to that several months ago and nearing a decision on a Droid. Appreciate any info. Thanks.

I thought I had done my due diligence in getting the Droid X (best phone) and switching over to Verizon (best network) after reading Consumer Reports and other pro-Droid blogs, etc.

I was looking forward to the change when I received these phones. Then horror! Can't synch with Outlook? What? Didn't the developer know that Outlook is a business tool?

I am hoping against hope that there is a solution out there, and I've been searching various forums for a champion. Alas, alack. Seems like there isn't s reliable solution. Had I known about this HUGE oversight, I would not have bought a Droid. I may have to return this phone and get something else!

I am not using Exchange. Will this still work? Like tigerger I have years of emails an rely heavily on folders and layers of subfolders. Will all this sync? I want to continue using outlook on my laptop primarily for the folder structure. I understand gmail does not support this? If I can solve this issue I will move to the Droid!

I was really happy with the Droid purchase but am deeply disappointed in the way it ignores people who are dependent on Outlook. I'm considering just taking the Droid back.

In the past I've moved from pop3 account to IMAP and as long as you don't have a lot of email it is fairly painless. If you have years of emails it can be a painful move. In your test case using google apps and Outlook 2007 did you have years of pop3 emails already in Outlook?

I just bought a Droid X on 12/31 after being a Blackberry user for years. I have spent hours trying to sync my Outlook and Network Solutions email to my Droid.

Network Solutions hosts my work email and that is pushed into my Outlook, which on my Blackberry worked FINE. The Verizon staff in the store were unable to do it and told me to contact Network Solutions Webmail. I spent 45 minutes on the phone with them and they steered my back to Verizon. I spent another hour on the phone with 3 different Verizon tech people and it still doesn't work. The Verizon tech said to contact Google to see if they support Network Solutions email. Network Solutions is a POP 3 account and their tech said their incoming port is 110 and outgoing port is 2525. I read an old Droid blog from 2009 saying that Driod did not support 2525 ports. But no one at Verizon can confirm that.

The Verizon tech said that they have that same incoming port from Network Solutions but no information for the outgoing port. Seems like someoen hasn't done all of their homework and I am beginning to think it is me adn will need to return this DROID X, which is a HUGE bummer. I really want an iPhone and this is the closest option on the Verizon Network.

HELP. I am super frustrated and need to get this resolved this week as I travel for business for the next 2 weeks.

Like Kirk, I am struggling with the fact that VZW is discontinuing wireless sync. I use Outlook 2007 with Business Contact Manager, (BCM has never sync'd) and use the Notes/Task features as well as the normal Contact/Calender/Email (I have 4 POP3 & an Exchange liveoffice server-for business email hooked up to outlook) without a hitch. The idea of not being able to have access the all these tools for my 3 businesses makes the idea of moving to Android OS, RIM OS incomprehensible.
I have looked at the Companion Link )USB cable-not an option, Gsync-it, doesn't seems to do all the tasks referenced above, Google sync also is limited.
So since Google has not made the move to make this kind of sync a "no-brainer" is there anyone who has?

I'm currently using WM 6.1 on an Omnia - with VZW wireless sync, I have all the outlook info that I need (contacts, email inbox, contacts) sync properly between my office pc and my phone. But now VZW has announced that they will no longer provide the wireless sync service for their customers, and recommend moving to another phone (like the droid). But if droid phones are having so many problems with doing the same kind of sync, what are my options as I move forward? Are we really moving backwards in technological terms?
